R&D and Innovation (RDI)

Research in ICT is a national priority. The Luxembourg Government integrated information security and high performance telecommunication networks in the Core Programme of the National Research Fund.
Approximately 4,000 people work in R&D, of which almost 2,000 are researchers.
Luxinnovation, the national Agency for Innovation and research, is the first-stop shop for information and guidance on innovation and R&D in Luxembourg including national and European programmes. Luxinnovation assists companies in identifying abilities and requirements, finding the right instruments for financial and technological support and facilitating access to support programmes for innovation and research at national and european levels.
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg contributes to establishing Luxembourg as the European centre of excellence and innovation for secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services. The interdisciplinary approach is essential, taking not only technical aspects into account, but also addressing business, human and regulatory issues.
SnT fosters interaction and collaboration with industrial, international and government partners.
The research unit Laboratory of Algorithmics, Cryptology and Security (LACS) is part of the Computer Science and Communication Research Unit of the University of Luxembourg. It focuses on cryptography, building secure public-key cryptosystems, systems and network security and information security management.
Public Research Centre Henri Tudor was born in 1987. The main mission of the Centre is to strengthen the economical and social tissue of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg with a European open-minded way of thinking. The Centre offers a large range of services and activities:
- Applied, experimental research
- Doctoral research
- Development of tools, methods, labels, certifications and standards
- Technological assistance, consulting and watch services
- Knowledge - competence transfer and incubation of high-tech companies
- Training and high-level qualification
The Centre's activities are mainly orientated towards 5 scientific and technological fields, including ICT. R&D projects, doctoral research and scientific publications of CRP henri Tudor concentrate on:
- Software architectures
- Securised communication networks
- Engineering of ICT-based services
- Quality of ICT-based services
- Management of ICT-based services
- ICT-based management of human capital
- Research, analysis and management of information
- Free and Open Source Software
The Luxembourg ICT Cluster is a network that supports the various actors in the field of information and communication technologies in Luxembourg with the goal of creating and developing new sustainable business opportunities through collaborative R&D and Innovation projects. It aims at optimising the uptake of ICT as an enabling technology for various sectors and the further development of the existing ICT sector in Luxembourg by fostering collaborative RDI projects.
The Luxembourg ICT Cluster provides access to a dynamic network of companies as well as public research organisations and offers a personalised portfolio of support services corresponding to the specific innovation requirements of its members.
