Luxembourg has a service oriented economy with a strong focus on ICT. Therefore, it may come without surprise that Luxembourg is a world leader with regard to ICT using occupations: 36.4% of employees are intensive users of ICT and 4.43% of the workforce are specialist users (OECD, 2009).

The massive development of data centers and ICT infrastructure in Luxembourg lead to a sharp increase in demand for high profile candidates in different sectors, be it in technical positions or in positions to the activities relying on these infrastructure (e-commerce, gaming, e-payments,…). ICT job opportunities are numerous in Luxembourg. Besides the various national players and suppliers, companies such as Amazon.com, Kabam, PayPal, Skype, Vodafone,… are recruiting staff in Luxembourg on a regular basis. But also international service groups such as Atos Origin, Dell, CSC, Dimension Data, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Tata Consulting, Oracle, Verizon,… regularly advertise open positions.

Salaries in Luxembourg are attractive. Employees in Luxembourg benefit from an excellent public health care and insurance system. With rates varying from 0% to 39 %, depending on their personal family situation, Luxembourg employees enjoy among the lowest individual income tax rates on salaries within the European Union.

Furthermore, Luxembourg has developed a very favourable tax regime for expatriates targeted at highly qualified individuals who are required so that international companies can develop their activities. The special regime offers tax relief that mitigates the expenses related to relocation, such as house moving and housing costs (if the employee maintains his house in the home country), expenses related to the relocation back to the home country, some travel costs between the home country and Luxembourg, school fees as well as a lump sum to cover the cost of living adjustment (COLA). for the highly qualified worker the expenses borne by the employer are not considered as an income.
